Genuine baffled by the logic of the #PornTrial. How can it be legal to participate in something, or watch it, but not look at a photo of it?
Killing Joke's Jaz Coleman goes missing (again)
KILLING JOKE
Official Statement
A statement was posted on Facebook, reputedly by our singer, maligning both The Cult and The Mission and pulling us out of the shows.
He is now AWOL and has not contacted any of his band mates.
We are deeply embarrassed by this and offer our sincere apologies to all involved.
We are all concerned about our missing singer's welfare.
Killing Joke made a collective decision to play with The Cult and The Mission in September.
It was agreed by all of the band that we would do these shows. Indeed, we thought that they were something to look forward to, even though they were downsized.
We would still like to honour our commitment to this tour, the other bands, and all the Gatherers and people who have already bought tickets and made travel arrangements.
If this proves not possible, Killing Joke will make alternative arrangements to compensate for the trouble caused.
Meanwhile we are doing everything we can to make this tour happen and locate our missing singer.

Jaz's* original statement:
It gives me great pleasure to announce the cancellation of the upcoming gigs with The Cult and The Mission. Frankly, playing at a gig with The Cult never appealed to me in the first place. The only reason we allowed ourselves to be talked into it was to blow both bands off the stage and to steal their respective audiences.
As the concert has been downgraded to a venue that we have recently headlined (and sold out) it doesn’t make sense. In addition to this Gatherers would only get to listen to a one hour set. Then there would be a problem with the dressing room and witnessing The Cult charge the fans $200 per head for a meet and greet.
Lastly, all their songs suck! They clearly have no integrity (they refer to their hometown as LA).

PS I don’t want your money
PPS Life without KJ is unthinkable!
*Update: It gets murkier
(Thanx Alan!)

Oceania: blue. Europe: black. Americas: red. Africa: yellow. Asia: green.
The Olympics promise many things - triumph of the human spirit, amazing athletic prowess, upsets and underdogs - but the most modern games are ultimately nothing if not a massive, global spectacle. Gustavo Sousa, a painter and creative director at Mother’s London office, was interested in exploring behind the pomp and circumstance. “Events like these can be a good time for reflection,” Sousa tells Co.Design. Oceaniaeuropeamericaasiaafrica illustrates stripped-down statistics from each region through simple scale shifts of the tournament’s iconic quintet of overlapping loops.“The rings represent healthy competition and union, but we know the world isn’t perfect. Maybe understanding the differences is the first step to try to make things more equal.”

The Thinking Man's Book Sculptures
Malaysia-born, Tennessee-based artist Daniel Lai, aka Kenjio, uses a
visually captivating paper folding technique for his inspired book
sculptures. Each book blossoms outward in waves of paper folded unto
themselves, accompanied by a clay figurine of a man deep in thought. The
sculptor's series of Thinker sculptures, echoing Rodin's The Thinker, exhibit an astute attention to detail and skill in multi-mediums, including paper and clay.
The beautiful imagery created by Kenjio's folding method mimics that of a fully-bloomed flower or perhaps a cog in a timepiece. The literary sculptures reinterpret the appeal of knowledge and reflect the limitations of time to absorb said knowledge. Kenjio has constructed a realm of his own where the thinking man reigns atop his literary throne.
To purchase some of these charming wall pieces, check out the artist's Etsy shop. Also, check out a video interview with the artist, conducted by his local news reporters at Knoxnews, for some insight into his process.

A genuine question as I am (very) confused...
...by the news that James Holmes has been charged with 24 counts of murder and yet he 'only' killed 12 people.
A friend suggested ' if he has a dual personality, they may both be guilty. 12 x 2 = 24. Simples!' Which at the moment seens the only logical explanation!!!
Can someone shed any light on this for me?
Alan McGee: The Man who Discovered Oasis (Omnibus BBC 1998)
Paul over at Dangerous Minds has an update on Mr McGee's current activities HERE.
I first came across Alan when he was doing The Living Room club down on Tottenham Court Road back in the early 80's as we had a number of mutual friends. Admire his 'get up and do it' attitude a lot but I really do think that Oasis were one of the worst bands of all time. Shows what I know eh?

K-Punk presents Return to the Fourth World
This mix was prompted by the fact that, in several recent pieces of writing about music, I found myself returning to Jon Hassell’s concept of “Fourth World Music” (music that combined elements from the so-called First and Third Worlds). The mix is an attempt to bring together these new approaches with the original take on Fourth World music conceived of by Hassell and Brian Eno.

PUSSY RIOT 4EVER
Madonna, Miuccia Prada, Kate Moss, Patti Smith, Bjork, Stella McCartney, Lady GaGa, Courtney Love...do something together about this awful travesty of justice. Use your vast wealth of fame and money and power to make a change for the benefit of these women and women throughout Russia: come out in support of these strong young punks. How wonderful it would be to see all of the you in balaclavas supporting Pussy Riot...preferably on the next cover and back pages of Vogue/Tatler/Vanity Fair/Purple in ads paid for and produced by YOU - strong women that all benefited from or helped CREATE punk. These are all magazines with weight and all read in Russia. Annie Leibovitz to snap, Anna Wintour to bloody style it if and you wonderful women pay for it to appear EVERYWHERE. Please REPOST this, particularly my friends in Fashion and Music - I know we all have 'mutual' friends here and this will get seen by the right people and this may seem crazy but think of it as your Live Aid moment...and moments like this don't come round very often. It would be FRONT PAGE NEWS AROUND THE WORLD. And Putin and his evil machine may just start to bow to international pressure: the pressure of people and above all the pressure of women to change this world - THEIR WORLD - for the better. PUSSY RIOT 4EVER...

Pussy Riot trial over Putin altar protest begins
Laurie Penny: London, Underground
They tell a lot of lies about London. Here’s one of them: during the Battle of Britain, with the Luftwaffe flattening the capital, those Londoners who were too poor to afford their own shelters were encouraged to take refuge on the platforms of the underground. The faded sepia pictures of families bedding down on the platforms of the Central line are still iconic, another representation of the dogged forbearance for which Londoners are renowned. We live in a city that has withstood two thousand years of invasion, rebellion, fires, plagues, wars ,and terrorist attacks and survived. Londoners knuckle down. We don’t grumble. We get on with things. We keep calm – as that resurrected bit of defunct military propaganda now plastering tote bags, tourist tat and novelty chocolates across the country gamely declares – and we carry on.
In fact, it didn’t happen quite like that. What happened was this: When the Blitz began, government ministers decided to close down the Tube during air raids, except for the use of a few officials. They didn’t want hundreds of thousands of refugees in the subways because they feared, as historian Andrew Martin puts it, that if the working class went underground “they might never come out again.” The shelterers, he notes, were “objects of patrician distaste;” signs were put up outside Tube stops forbidding them to enter. Then, on the 19th of September 1940, the British Communist party, who had campaigned against the ban from the start, launched a series of organized riots. They tore open the tubes and Londoners rushed to occupy the platforms as the bombs screamed overhead. After that, the government had no choice but to support the refugees in order to save face...

The Pixies - loudQUIETloud: A Film About the Pixies
An intimate portrait of the band members and their trying, tense and ultimately triumphant return as one of rock music's greatest bands. When college rock darlings the Pixies broke up in 1992, their fans were shocked and dismayed. When they reunited in 2004, those same fans and legions of new listeners were ecstatic and filled with high hopes. loudQUIETloud follows the rehearsals and the warm up shows for the full-fledged, sold out reunion tour. It also catalogs, in the cinema verite style of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" and Bob Dylan's "Don't Look Back", the less glamorous side of the touring band lifestyle, getting as close to this enigmatic act as anyone is ever likely to get. LoudQUIETloud captures the Pixies in a once in a lifetime chance at rock n roll redemption. Original soundtrack by Daniel Lanois.
